Hi there, I'm Pat. I'm a stills photographer based in Dublin, Ireland and working wherever I'm required. My job is simply described - to create striking images to catch the eye on print or online platforms and draw attention to a particular film or TV programme. I came to this role through photojournalism and my love of film. Both taught me how to capture a visual story. I started out shooting for newspapers and ended up covering conflict zones around the world. I was never strictly a war photographer but always more interested in detailing the effects of conflict on ordinary people's lives. I've always told stories with my photos - life in 1/60th of a second segments. A single photo can never tell the whole story but it can draw you in to make you want to learn more. This is the skill I have brought to my work with actors in film. It's about finding and holding the moments to entice the viewer into the world a film is creating. In these terms I think of a good still photo as a well-composed constructed fact evoking and inspiring an emotion drawn from the viewer. That's what we always say on set anyway!

I became ill and lost 20 kilos in a week on the Afghan-Pakistani border while covering a news story then, on recovery, gratefully grabbed an opportunity and fell into film stills photography - I love it and I've never looked back. I'm continually thrilled to be working with many great actors, directors and crews. All my languages can be a little rusty initially but I speak German well, have a working knowledge of both French and Dutch and a smattering of Spanish.
